Change the Featured Products on Your PrestaShop Store’s Homepage

by Curt Donohue on March 15, 2011

Are you wondering how to add, change, or delete products from your Featured Products module on your PrestaShop store’s homepage?  Or, are you wondering what the Featured Products module even is?  Never fear, clarity is here.

The video below is in response to a comment on the PrestaShop form were a Newcomer was wondering how to modify what is shown on the home page in what is called the Featured Products on the Homepage Module.  That’s a mouthful, so I’m going to just call it the Featured Products module.

This video will explain how to add products to your “Home” category and then how to configure your Featured Products module to show those products just the way you want to.

Ours is Version

We have “Featured Auction Products” at the top which we will keep as it is. Those products are fetched on Home by “Auction” module. Below that we want “Featured Products” box and beow that “Featured Categories” would come.

I need module which will allow me to choose Products and also Categories [from BO] so that these selected
products and categories would be displayed on Home as “Featured Products” and “Featured Categories”.

Products will be displayed on Home with their names, prices and partial short descriptions continued with dots….. No “Add to Cart” button but we may display View button.

Each row [or box] must accomodate FOUR products and i must be able to arrange those in my sequence. Any module which will fulfill these requirements?

Thanks for the additional detail and link to your site.

I’m not currently aware of a module that can do what you need. It sounds like this would be a custom coding job to modify your theme.

If I run across anything, I’ll let you know.

Any module that will allow to select products and categories to choose from BO and place those on Home page?

I’m not sure I understand your question. Can you please rephrase it?

Very good video!
Is it hard to split the home featured into categories?

So that it shows each category and underneath the products in each category….
I’ve found a paid-module for it but it doesnt really do what I need.

It shouldn’t be too hard to split it up into categories…. I hope:)

Thanks for the comment Sebastian.

I don’t know if it hard to do that or not. It would require custom coding. It’s not something I have any experience with.

You might want to see if you can find someone to contract with on or There’s a good chance you can find someone there to give you exactly what you want.

Is it possible to have a ‘multiple page’ kind of home featured. I understand I can adjust the number of products to be displayed at the home featured, but when there are hundred over featured products, it is not possible to list them all in one page. Is it possible to break the gallery display into multiple pages?

Seeking your assistance. Thank you!

Curt Donohue June 13, 2011 at 12:34 pm

I would suspect that this is possible, although, I don’t know how to do it. I think it a matter of PHP coding.

Have you checked the PrestaShop Forum for this yet?

I’m curious why you have so many featured products. I think 100 featured products takes away from the unique “featured” aspect.

Keep in mind that you won’t see that many special or featured products on Amazon or other sites like it. I would strongly suggest reducing the amount of featured products you have so they neatly fit on one page. Otherwise your “featured” products will lose their unique and special appeal.

You could keep all your currently featured products in the home section of the Back Office and then set a schedule to change those products that show on the home page. For instance, set the first 8 products to show the first week. Then, turn those products off and set the next 8 products to show the second week, and so on. Kind of a pain I know.

If you really want to show all 100 featured products on multiple pages, you may be able to find someone in the Forum to help you. Or, you might have to pay for some development time from an experienced coder.

Hi Curt,

Is it possible to remove the descriptionsection of the featured products? So that it only shows the name, image and price of the product.

Curt Donohue May 24, 2011 at 9:04 pm

Yes it is possible, although, I didn’t know how to do it when I read your post initially. I took a bit of time and created a video to show how to remove the descriptions from the Featured Products. You can watch the video here: Remove Short Descriptions From Featured Products on the Home Page

okyo April 30, 2011 at 4:21 am

isn’t it possible to put individual products in the “featured products”-list?
Or does the moduel select the products automatically by itself?
What i mean is, i want to say: product x -> go to “featured products”-list, and prodcuct y not!
thanx for help

Curt Donohue April 30, 2011 at 8:30 am

To answer your question, yes it is possible to add products only to the Featured Products list, which is actually the Featured Products on the Home Page Module.

The products you place in your “Home” category, will be the products that show up on the Home Page. You have total control over what shows up and what does not show up.

This is covered pretty well in the video above at around the 1:41 time frame. Please re-watch that and I think it will answer your question completely.

i whant to know why my pic dont show up, its only 240 k big so i dont se the prob

Curt Donohue April 18, 2011 at 7:35 am

Hi Max,

What type of image are you trying to upload? .jpg, .png, or something else? What is this image for? Header logo?

Depending on the PrestaShop version, you may be trying to load an image file that PrestaShop won’t allow. I know in earlier versions of PrestaShop, they said you could upload a .jpg or .png, but you actually cannot. It will drive a person crazy until you realize all you can upload is a .jpg. Could this be your issue?

The files size doesn’t seem very big, so I would agree that you shouldn’t have trouble with that aspect of the upload.

I was looking at your theme using Firebug, which is a Firefox plugin. Do you have and/or know how to use Firebug?

It appears there is either something wrong with your theme, or a setting that you don’t have quite right.

Honestly, the theme is OK, but is you wanted to spend a little money you could really improve your site’s appearance. Since you seem to be selling upscale goods anyway, you should really consider a better theme.

You might want to check out the themes by I’ve tried some of his themes out and they are very classy.
