Remove Short Descriptions From Featured Products on the Home Page

by Curt Donohue on May 24, 2011

I recently received a question from John who asked if it was possible to remove descriptions from the Featured Products on the Home Page and leave the product title and image.

I had to do a bit of research, but I can say that yes it is possible and I made a short video to show one way of doing it. I tested it on a standard installation of PrestaShop version and it seems to work great.

Here’s the video…

I have a question about this. I am pretty new to Prestashop and also editing things is something I haven’t done often.
Anyways, I have PS and I tried to remove the exact line you showed in the tutorial. I used Dreamweaver for this. However, when I upload the new tpl file, my website appears completely white.
I have no idea what I did wrong, since I already edited another page before and that worked fine. I hope you can help me out with this!

I am having several issues with my website that I really need to fix. I am really hoping you could help!
Both of my issues involve image sizes:
1) First, I tried to enlarge my images in the Feature Products section on the home page and instead of enlarging the picture I somehow made the length of the image longer and now the featured products are covering the price of the product. How can I enlarge the feature products images and also make the prices show on the home page again?
2) Second, there is a white box around my images, I want the images to be larger to the size of the white box. How can I make this happen? You will see this if you click on a product to view.
Here is my website, please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your help!

Hi Sara,

First, I want to say that I think your theme is quite nice. It’s simple and attractive. Where did you get that and what did you pay for it?

Second, I believe your problem on image enlargement is that, when you enlarged your images, they are now covering up your prices, correct?

Most themes have aspects, such as your Featured Products module, that expect things a certain way. In other words, they don’t work well, or at all, when you change things, such as when you changed your picture size. They are not made to adjust automatically.

Also, your images are rectangles, not squares. Square images usually work best in pretty much every theme I’ve seen. However, even a square images may not have worked after you enlarged them.

To fix this issue would require some redesign to your theme.

Lastly, the white box around your product pictures in the Featured Products module area appears to be intentional and is quite common. I would suggest finding a different theme is you didn’t like this look.

You should visit with the creator of your theme. They may be able to help make these custom modifications for you. That’s where I would start. Otherwise, you’ll probably need to pay someone for their time to rework your theme.

Is it possible for you to show us how to add an advertising banner/advert into the Featured Products area above the Featured Products themselves?

I imagine an image would need to uploaded to the localhost but how would this be achieved?

Curt Donohue June 23, 2011 at 11:22 am

I’ll need to know a bit more about what you really want to achieve. From what I understood of your comment, I did a little customization and came up with the following results: Click here to view the screenshot

If this is what you want, let me know and I’ll put together a video on how I did that. If not, I don’t understand what you really want and need more info.
