Interview with Presto-Changeo.com

PrestaTraining:

Tell us a little bit about your store.  Where is your business based?

Presto-Changeo:

Presto-Changeo.com is based in New York City – we’re proud to be Prestashop’s first and only US based Gold Certified Agency.

PrestaTraining:

What are some of the products you offer?

Presto-Changeo:

In addition to full service e-commerce website design, development and deployment, we create modules and modifications for the Prestashop CMS platform including attribute, filter, shipping, social media, payment and migration modules to name a few.

PrestaTraining:

What types of customers would be interested in your products?

Presto-Changeo:

Anyone who owns or manages a website that uses Prestashop, anyone interested in migrating their site to Prestashop, or anyone needing to develop a top-notch e-commerce business for their brand.

PrestaTraining:

Where can customers go to find your products?

Presto-Changeo:

All of our modules and modifications are available on our website. Customers can also contact us through our site to discuss custom development tailored to their unique needs.

PrestaTraining:

What is the best way for customers to contact you with questions?

Presto-Changeo:

Messages sent through our contact form always find their way to us. It can be found here:  https://www.presto-changeo.com/en/contact_us

We also have live chat – if it says we’re online, drop us a note!

PrestaTraining:

What is your most popular module and why do you think that is?

Presto-Changeo:

Our Attribute Wizard Pro module is downloaded more than any other. It provides site owners with so much flexibility and functionality for selling products with multiple attributes in a way that creates a simple and intuitive experience for the customer.

Our new Ajax Filter module is catching up quickly in popularity though…we think it will be a classic one day!

PrestaTraining:

When I went to your “Best Sellers” tab, the Attribute Wizard Pro Module came up in first place.  What does this module do that PrestaShop does not already do?

Presto-Changeo:

Attribute Wizard Pro really stands out because it allows you to create an unlimited number of attributes per product and display them using a radio button, checkbox, dropdown, textbox, textarea or file upload. In other words, it allows for complete customization of attributes and the way product options are presented to customers in Prestashop.

Some of our customer’s favorite features in this module include ability to display an image next to each attribute group, choice of opening attribute options in a popup or on product page, a feature that allows ordering of attribute groups and items, including displaying multiple options on the same line, and many others.

PrestaTraining:

You also have an Attribute Wizard Module.  What features does the Pro version have that this version does not have?

Presto-Changeo:

Although they’re both popular, the Pro version comes with more flexibility as far as how attributes can be displayed, and more importantly, by making core code changes, the Pro version is designed to handle a large number of attributes per product without causing performance issues. In comparison, a default Prestashop configuration only allows 1000-3000 combinations per products before causing problems and that’s just not good enough for many stores. The Pro version fundamentally changes the way attribute combinations are added to products to allow for much greater flexibility in how products are offered.

PrestaTraining:

I see you have two free social media modules.  One module adds a Facebook Like Button and the other module adds the Google Plus 1.  Do you find a high demand for these tools?

Presto-Changeo:

Absolutely! Both are quite popular downloads, and as the need for a strong social media strategy increases for all types of business owners, we only expect the use of social media modules to become more of a necessity than a luxury. To compliment the technical functionality we offer in the social media space, we will be launching social media planning, integration and management services for our customers in the future also. Stay tuned!

PrestaTraining:

Do you have any thoughts on the value of Google Plus 1 versus Facebook versus Twitter?

Presto-Changeo:

Obviously the value of Google +1 is nowhere near that of Facebook or Twitter right now, simply because it has not been around long enough to have proven itself and it doesn’t have the user base required. Only time will tell.

PrestaTraining:

What is your opinion of the impact of social media on e-commerce?  What are the best ways to use social media for a PrestaShop store owner?

Presto-Changeo:

What social media has going for it is exactly what marketers often describe as it’s biggest selling point; the ability to crowd-source your friends and family, the people you trust most, for product and purchase opinions. It may sound like a cliche at this point, but the human tendency to rely on those around them for advise is very real. In a nutshell, regardless of how it manifests itself over the coming years, social media will have an enormous impact on e-commerce business and the best thing a shop owner can do is embrace it and integrate it, both technically and conceptually, with everything they do.

PrestaTraining:

You sell two modules to assist in migrating from other e-commerce software platforms.  One is for OSCommerce and the other is for ZenCart.  I’ve watched your video on the OSCommerce to PrestaShop module and it is quite a process to get the module fully configured.

Do your customers have issues with getting the module set up and making the migration process work?

Presto-Changeo:

We’re not contacted with issues very often, we find it’s a pretty simple process for most users. All you need to do is copy a file the module generates to the OSCommerce / Zencart shop, and enter the URL of the shop in the module.

PrestaTraining:

What does this module do once it is properly configured?

Presto-Changeo:

It migrates all of your product information (as well as categories, manufacturers and product reviews) plus order history and customer data (even allowing customers to use their old password). This makes the transition from those carts to Prestashop as smooth as it can be.

PrestaTraining:

Is there anything that this module cannot migrate from OSCommerce with the help of this module?

Presto-Changeo:

The module cannot import any special customizations that were made to a shop, or any data from 3rd party modules.

PrestaTraining:

You have a number of payment and shipping modules.  In general what do these modules offer that Prestashop does not?

Presto-Changeo:

Most of our payment modules come with a feature to void transactions and/or issue refunds, including the ability to manually set the refund amount, directly from the modules back office page.

We recently introduced to our most popular Authorize.net module a new integration method that does not require a site owner to have an SSL certificate or to fulfill any PCI compliance requirements. We think this is a very cool option and will make doing business easier for a lot of website owners.

Our shipping modules use an advanced boxing algorithm which we have developed, which lets a shop owner enter multiple box/packaging sizes, and the module will automatically calculate how many boxes and which sizes are needed to fit all the products in an order. It will always try to use the fewest / smallest boxes.

This means the customer always gets the most accurate shipping rate in real time. It also allow you to enter a different free shipping limit for each shipping method / zone, and has a shipping rate preview on the product page.

We plan to add a shipping preview inside the cart and label printing features in future releases.

PrestaTraining:

PrestoChangeO provide quite a few free modules, 10 in total. What are your most popular free modules?

Presto-Changeo:

With social media on the top of everyone’s mind, our Facebook Like Button and Google +1 modules get the most downloads. After the social modules, our free Quantity Discounts module tends to be very popular. That product removes the default Quantity Discounts tab from product pages and displays that information right below the product price.

PrestaTraining:

Out of all the modules you’ve created, what module is your favorite and why?

Presto-Changeo:

It’s a really close call between Attribute Wizard Pro and the Shipping Modules.

AWP lets the customer create a very unique and powerful product page, and we really love seeing how creatively many customers put it to use on their sites.

The shipping modules on the other hand solve a common and difficult logistics problem (the boxing calculation), which was very challenging to create, but offers capabilities that we have yet to see in any other shipping module.

PrestaTraining:

I’ve seen many people compliment PrestoChangeO on support for its modules in the PrestaShop Forum.  Please tell us about your philosophy on support and how you work on keeping your customers satisfied.

Presto-Changeo:

We try to give the same level of support that we expect to get as a customer. We want our dedication and passion for what we do to help set us apart from the crowd and providing top-quality and responsive support is a big part of our mission. We give top priority to any bug report or issue with a module, and we always keep each customer informed about the status of their support issue. Between our contact form and live chat we are always reachable.

PrestaTraining:

Do you have written instructions for your modules?

Presto-Changeo:

Most modules come with instructions inside the configuration page of the module and others are fairly self explanatory, or just operate in the background and do not require any interaction.

We’ve also made a few videos for modules, showing how to install and use them, and plan to add more in the future. As always, if you have can’t find the answer you’re looking for, just send us a note.

PrestaTraining:

Can you please explain the support options if someone runs into trouble installing, configuring, or using your modules?  Please explain what is free and what would cost money.

Presto-Changeo:

All the modules come with free installation assistance; if a customer has trouble installing a module, we make sure they get all the help they need. The free support includes installing and setting up the module in it’s default form, it does not include help customizing a module or getting it to work in a new or different way.

PrestaTraining:

Modules are a tricky thing with PrestaShop because sometimes PrestaShop comes out with core functionalities that make paid-for modules from vendors, such as you, obsolete and unnecessary.  What can you tell us about your modules to give customer’s piece of mind that they are not wasting their money?

Presto-Changeo:

We don’t see it that way, a module can become obsolete only if it stays the same.

We always try to improve and expand on our modules, so even if Prestashop includes a new feature that offers similar functionality to one of our modules, the next version we release will be even bigger and better.

PrestaTraining:

What happens if someone buys a module and doesn’t like it, or it doesn’t work?  Do you have a refund policy?  If so, how does it work?

Presto-Changeo:

Our refund policy states that the only time we offer a refund is if  module does not work as described on the product page, and we cannot resolve the issue and make it work. We never like seeing a customer unhappy with a purchase so we will always do whatever it takes to make a module work.

PrestaTraining:

What do you find are the biggest challenges developing your modules in the PrestaShop environment?  In other words do you find PrestaShop an easy or difficult platform to develop and implement your modules in?

Presto-Changeo:

We love it, Prestashop is intuitive and very easy to use once you know your way around. The module structure, and now the recently added override folder, make it very easy to integrate modules to the shop.

We have not developed for other shopping carts so it’s hard to compare, but we have seen the back offices and code from competitor carts and we would choose Prestashop any day of the week!

PrestaTraining:

Do any of your modules require core code modifications?

Presto-Changeo:

Yes, our Attribute Wizard Pro product requires quite a few code changes to modules and tpl files, and uses override files as well. We normally try to avoid core changes, but sometimes that is the only way to achieve the best results.

The modules that require code changes come with a set of the modified files (specific to each version if needed), as well as a “self-checker” which guides a customer through the files and line numbers they need to update, with a color indicator that turns from red to green once the modifications are made. These features make installing these modules simple and easy even for a novice user.

PrestaTraining:

What advantages has the introduction of the Override folder with its custom classes and controllers provided you as a module developer?

Presto-Changeo:

When we create a module that needs to change a core functionality of Prestashop, we no longer need to make a new release of the module for each new version of Prestashop that is released.

PrestaTraining:

What is your next big module project?

Presto-Changeo:

We’re excited about our Mass Combination Editor module, which will make it much easier to manage product combinations, change price and weight impacts, assign reference numbers and assign images.

PrestaTraining:

Is there anything you would like to tell the readers that I did not ask?

Presto-Changeo:

We have a very talented team at Presto-Changeo that believes Prestashop is hand-down the best open source e-commerce CMS out there and between our expertise building modules of all types, our marketing and social media experience and our dedication to what we do, we want to be your go-to shop when you need a trusted and passionate partner to design and develop a modern and fully integrated e-commerce website for your brand.
